A photo of the refurbished studio from outside in the garden bed. I must admit I haven’t moved everything back in yet. I’m enjoying the uncluttered space too much.
It takes a few tries to mix the exact colour needed, especially when overprinting other hues. Colour test strip with hue mixing notes and my inked up lino block.
It’s been great working in the house, but I want to give this space back to the family now. I thought the day I could move back into the studio couldn’t come soon enough. ‘ Trouble is (sigh) after all the waiting and farnarkalling around, I have a graphic design project deadline looming, and another colour to add on the plovers reduction linocut and I haven’t got a spare moment to move everything back in to the studio. This is the fluctuating nature of creative industry work. Luckily I’m experienced enough to know that in my work practice there is
A soft red is the fourth colour on my hooded plovers reduction linocut. Only one more stage of carving and then one final colour to print.
Good for the soul... listening to John Wolseley on Saturday afternoon at Australian Galleries. He describes himself as a process artist and is a self confessed name dropper. Maybe you can, get along to the exhibition with Mulkun Wirrapanda: Two old artists looking for shellfish, which runs until Aug 11. Thanks @kategorringesmith and happy to see you there @robmanciniart and make the acquaintance of @merricreekmusing .
So my mum was cleaning out cupboards at my childhood home and found my RMIT vis comm folios and other stuff going back to grade 6, complete with powdered silverfish and dried millipedes. Torn paper collage of a building in Carlton or Brunswick, from year 1 or 2 illustration with the great Ray Honisett.
Surplus to requirements. Sometimes it’s easier to cut it off rather than carve it out. Ink colours one and two were on this cut off piece, but now those colours have been printed, this area no longer has a use, except perhaps to help with registration. With reduction prints the plate is destroyed during the process.
I’m posting a blue sky photo to remind myself eventually clear skies will return to Victoria and beckon me out of the studio. This cold snap with so much rain has made studio time quiet, and intense, a good time to achieve and reflect. I took this shot early July on what I feel was our last sunny weekend. It’s an old battlement at Point Nepean, although at first glance could pass for an architecturally designed coastal dwelling.

A tiny beautiful monoprint, created while I was printing the second colour on my hooded plovers reduction linocut. It is unique and unrepeatable. It’s risky work, made on a whim after the methodical editioning of the plovers print.
I prefer this natural light from my huge new studio window. When I switch on the lcd Fluoro task lighting the place is resplendent! Sorry there’s no big studio warming but I will keep posting photos and you are welcome to visit anytime by appointment, especially now that I’m part of the newly developed Warragul Region Art Trail.
Studio equipment: art drying rack rescued from Malvern Primary School by my friends Mark & Therese. I’m quite taken with it. I use rubber bands to create extra support for my small prints.
